Back from St. Croix

Well I am back from an absolutely beautiful wedding in St. Croix between Michelle and Ryan. The wedding was simply amazing and all of the vendors did a fantastic job. Natalie, the wedding coordinator from Sagewood Events did an outstanding job of keeping the day moving without an real hitches. Suka Productions was responsible for the tent, lighting and flowers and just did a stellar job. Some of the most beautiful table arrangements I have ever gotten to photograph. While the weather (85 degrees; 100% humidity; steady rain) tried to dampen everyones spirits the couple would have nothing to do with it and went on to have a simply fantastic time.

Giving back to the community

I thought I would take a moment to tell you all about a new and wonderful movement that is taking place. I had the pleasure last night to donate my time and services to Fran Drescher's new organization, Cancer Schmancer. As some of you may know, Fran's personal bout with cancer and her experiences led her to write a book and then take things one step further and create an organization to help push forward the cause of Women and Cancer. Last night's fundraiser featured Senator Arlen Specter, along with other distinguished guests, who has been instrumental in pushing forward new legislation promoting Women's rights as it relates to testing for cancer. This is a wonderful organization and I encourage everyone to buy Fran's book and look into joining her organization. It is only through the power of the people that we can affect the type of change necessary to get Congress moving on such important issues.

If you have a special cause or organization that is in need of donated services, please drop us a note. We are happy to help out whenever we are able to.

Back from New Orleans

Well, we are back and recovering from a wonderful wedding in New Orleans. What a great story this is, it was for a wonderful couple whose original wedding was canceled due to hurricane Katrina. As with most people down there, their lives were turned upside down since the hurricane simply trying to recover and regroup.

Happily they are moving on, recovered and thriving. So, they finally had there long delayed ceremony with a great group of friends and family in one of New Orleans historic Jazz halls. It was a blast to attend and photograph. We will have some images up shortly for all to see.

Cherry Blossoms
and engagement sessions are almost upon us. Many of you know that we simply can't get down to the blossoms every day because it is just too crazy with Tourists. To solve this we will be taking appointment sessions for two days, in the evening, during the first week of April. The dates are Tuesday April 3rd and Thursday April 5th. If you are interested please don't hesitate to get in touch so you can grab one of these limited time slots.

Engagement Sessions are in full swing now that we have the time change and some warming weather. Our Wedding season will be very full this year so it is critical to get your sessions scheduled as early as possible. Due to the wedding schedule, we will be primarily doing engagement sessions during the week days. While this creates some challenges for you, we thing that doing them in the evening hours provides us with fantastic light and avoids the crowds at some of the more popular locations. As noted before, please contact us as soon as possible if you are interested in scheduling a session. As always, we are happy to work with couples that have already booked with other Wedding Professionals for their 'Day Of' coverage.

Our referral program will be kicking into high gear shortly. This program is intended for referrals that target baby and children programs as well as Teens looking for stylized Sr. Portraits. If you are interested in details of the program please drop us a note and we will fill you in with the details.

Lastly, as always, we try to find ways to give back to the community and non-profit organizations. Previously we have done a great deal of work with the American Liver Foundation and are pleased to be working with Fran Drescher's Cancer Schmancer organization for upcoming fund raisers. If you know of organizations such as this that are meaningful and need help, please let us know as we are always looking to give back.

Spring is in the air

We are very excited to be emerging from this crazy winter we are having in Washington DC... Spring is only a few days away and that signals the beginning of engagement sessions and weddings. We have a number of great new things to talk about as we move into the busy season.

First, I want to introduce Amy Allen to the Glenn Barnett Photography team. Amy was one of my wonderful brides this past year and since she loved us so much she decided to join our great staff. Amy will be responsible for album design and customer care. Her contact information is amy@glennbarnett.com, so please feel free to contact her if you need anything. She will be sending out a note very shortly introducing herself to all of my current clients. Amy comes to us from Belmont Country Club and thus brings a great understanding of the wedding industry and client service.

Next, we are excited to announce that sometime in 2007 we will be opening studio locations in Ft. Worth Texas and Vail Colorado. These represent great locations for both our Bridal and Portrait clientele. If you have questions please just let us know. As we work through the logistics we will keep everyone informed. My home base will continue to be the Washington DC area but this will open up great new opportunities for Destination weddings, especially in the Vail location.

Previously I had mentioned the addition of several new products for 2007 and we are slowly working towards our initial offerings. I am most interested in offering high quality products so it is taking us a little while to work out the details and logistics. For more information just drop us a note and we will get back to you shortly or continue to check the Blog for more details.

This spring I am very excited to announce the great publications that have chosen to feature our images. They include:

- Engaged Magazine (We have the feature wedding of Paula and Alex)
- The Knot, Washington DC
- The Knot, Best Of Weddings due out in April (More to come on this)
- Capitol File, Feature wedding
- Washington Life, Feature wedding

These all represent not only the fantastic clients we have worked with but also our dedication to the highest quality of imagery. If you are interested in getting your images published, please let us know and we will add them to our list of submissions. We currently work with all of the local and national publications to submit wedding and portrait images.

Lastly I want to talk about 'Timeliness'. As I mentioned above, we are solely focused on producing the highest quality of imagery for your day as is possible. In order for us to accomplish this, we dedicate a great deal of time to your images through all phases of development. We are not in a race to produce images and/or products quickly. Rushing this process only leads to an inferior product and not something that we choose to produce or would we be proud to show. When it is your time for us to work on your images, we ask for your patience and understanding so that we may produce images that will truly last a lifetime for you.

I look forward to a wonderful 2007 and seeing all of you very soon!!

Glenn

Spring Issue of Engaged

We are excited to talk about the new issue of Engaged Magazine. We were selected as one of the contributors and as such got a great spread on a beautiful Spring 2006 Wedding. If you can't find copies of the magazine, please drop by or send us a note and we will be sure and get you copies. It is a beautiful magazine and the images are just spectacular.

As we move through the winter time, spring will be upon us before you know it. We encourage everyone to get on our calendars for your photo sessions as soon as possible.

We are also excited to be launching our new Life Style Senior sessions this year. This will be a high energy, high fashion take on boring senior portraits. These can be done in the studio or on location at a place of your choosing. Pricing includes hair and makeup so please contact us directly for more details and pricing/scheduling information.

Lastly we are looking for some individuals that are intersted in some unique modeling opportunities. Once again, this will be high energy and highly stylized work. In return for your services we will provide access to both electronic and print versions of the images for your portfolio. If you are looking to test the modeling waters this is a great way to get started. Hair and makeup will be provided.
